Claydon Reeves 59m Project: Meteora

Claydon Reeves were delighted to be invited by Pendennis to submit a concept megayacht for inclusion in their 25th Anniversary Book. Meteora is the 59m (194ft) megaryacht concept created by the design studio which is influenced by car design and in particular American muscle cars.

Many modern megayachts are described as being inspired by particular cars, but usually the designs are attempting to resemble a four-wheeled object too closely. Claydon Reeves have tried to use the elements, curves, lines, and masculine appearance of "the muscle car" to create Meteora.

She has an overall exterior profile that's low and sleek but in a way even bold and aggressive. Her high bow and long foredeck give her the muscular tones of the American muscle car. Beneath her bold outer exterior is an interior that will be fully customisable by a new owner.

Specifications:
  • Length: 59m (194ft)
  • Beam: 11.8m (39ft)
  • Draft 3.55m (12ft)
  • Guests: 12

The Modern Superyacht Project 'Oxygen'

BMT Nigel Gee, a subsidiary of the BMT Group have just released their new Superyacht design which they have developed in collaboration with Claydon Reeves. With this revolutionary design they may have just redefined the expedition style of Superyacht. Oxygen, which the project has been named will be able to take owners and guest on exploration voyages all over the world in exceptional comfort and stability due to her width and semi-SWATH (XSS) hull form.

For those of you who are thinking what does SWATH mean, it stands for 'Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull'. It is a twin hull just like a catamaran but has less of a hull cross sectional area at the waters surface, this will maximize the stability of Oxygen in rough seas and high speeds.

Oxygen is an expedition yacht but not your typical one, her main role is to be used for diving expeditions. Not only is she going to be equipped with top of the range diving equipment, she will also carry her own 5m (16ft) submarine that will be launched from an innovative stern lift that doubles as an adjustable swim platform. Oxygen will measure 55m (180ft) in length and will comfortably reach speeds of up to 24kts.

Claydon Reeves approached the design with a clean sheet of paper. 'We were delighted when BMT Nigel Gee asked us to assist them in creating a luxury vessel on their XSS hull platform.' says James Claydon. 'The extreme beam available only on a catamaran allowed us to set aside conventional motor yacht design principles and instead create a totally original exterior, clothing a practical yet intuitive internal arrangement.'

Her funky and modern glazed exterior appearance will act as a spectacular viewing platform for guests looking out at the surrounding scenery. It will also let in plenty of natural light bring the guests that one step closer to the natural world.

The guest accommodation is spread over three decks with the owner enjoying forward views on the main deck with a private terrace. The dive headquarters are located aft on the main deck and provides changing facilities for the days underwater activities and permits direct access to the water once the stern lift is deployed. The main saloon and dining room are located on the bridge deck above, along with the VIP cabin, captain’s cabin and senior crew accommodation.

Two New Concept Designs from Claydon Reeves

The Claydon Reeves design studio is definitely sticking to their philosophy "Elegance is derived from the purity of the line" when they designed their two new concept designs Radiance and the 230ft Caspian.

Radiance

This design will appeal to an owner who is looking for a yacht with modern lines and functional outside spaces. The ample space can mostly be seen on her aft deck with the 13m swimming pool. Like most modern yachts launched today radiance has a transom door that can be lowered down to create the beach club where guests can relax.
She will be able to accommodate up to 12 guests and a crew of 21. Spread out over her 5 decks are public and private spaces, Her design is definitely sleek with a single line drawing viewer from the bow along the yacht to the stern, see in the picture below.

Caspian

Caspian is a 230ft concept design that was released at the Monaco Yacht Show in September. With her powerful bold lines it shows that she was designed and built for speed. She shows this with having a cruising speed of 15kts and a range of 4,500nm. Some of her main features are a 95msq aft deck which includes a 7m long infinity pool which cuts through the aft deck, a gym, A beach club and a sun deck forward of the bridge which includes a spa pool.
She can accommodate 12 guests in 4 staterooms and 2 VIP cabins. The owners cabin is situated forward on the main deck and enjoys commanding views with full length windows which can be seen in the picture below. The owners dressing room has a large skylight above.
