The New "M/Y Kismet" Completes Sea Trials
Project Global, soon to be named "Kismet" went on sea trials for three days last month. She measures 95m (312ft) and is built for a repeat and very experienced client, who up graded from his former 68m (223ft) Lurssen megayacht which was also previously named Kismet.
Under optimal weather conditions, functional tests such as the propulsion plant, pump jet, trials of the thruster, steering system, tests of the cooling, lubrication and fuel system as well as the freshwater treatment units were carried out, as well as the smoke test in the engine room and the blackout tests The main engines were fine tuned as were the stabilizers together with the trials for the emergency and zero speed functions.
The manoeuvring tests were executed to full satisfaction and all other tests carried out on board achieved the expected results. "She is an extraordinarily quiet yacht with no vibrations", comments the technical team, much to the pleasure of the owner.
She is now back in the yard with the final few projects being finished off before her delivery this month.

Lurssen Launch New 95m "Kismet"
Lurssen has announced the successful launching and unveiling of the beautiful 95m (312ft) project Global, which will soon be named "Kismet". She is built for a repeat and very experienced client, who up graded from his former 68m (223ft) Lurssen megayacht which was sold and just left the Lurssen yard a few weeks previous after undertaking a refit.
At the launch ceremony the owner praised the excellent cooperation with the owner's team consisting of his captain Kyle Fultz and his loyal crew, the design teams of Espen Oeino and Reymond Langton Design and Moran Yacht & Sip, who supervised the project as well as the Lurssen project team who played an important role in bringing this project to fruition.
Robert Moran of Moran Yacht & Ships said: "Kismet represents the best of the best in the construction of top quality yachts. Built by one of the best shipyards in the world, Lurssen Yachts in Germany, the owner of this superb yacht had massive input and visited the shipyard constantly during her construction. His input and knowledge pushed all involved in this project to raise their standards to a level never seen before in the yachting industry. We at Moran Yacht and Ship are proud to have been involved in the construction of such a great project."
Lurssen confirms: "We are happy that we have met the high-end expectations from the owner in terms of product quality and being able to stay within budget and on time. We are looking forward for Kismet to be delivered as scheduled and finding her place amongst her peers as being a remarkable statement in large yacht construction, based on an excellent design and excellent engineering skills."
Espen Oeino has given Kismet very harmonious lines: "The external living spaces are numerous and generous and have been laid out for both charter and private use in mind. The external deck facilities include an open fire place, external lounging and eating areas on three different decks including one with a fully equipped BBQ, an oval shaped swimming pool with integrated Jacuzzi on the sun deck and a very private observation deck overlooking it all. The master stateroom also has its own private external deck fully equipped with Jacuzzi and TV."
Interior designer Pascal Reymond explains what enhances Kismet's luxurious style: "The interior spaces distributions of Kismet are very original with some very dramatic features and fabulous perspectives with large voids between decks, perfect for large dining parties and also suitable for smaller private and more intimate uses thanks to sliding doors and panels which can separate elegantly each area. Kismet has everything any owner would inspire for. Elegant, spacious and well equipped spa with a plunge pool, every guest suites and owners area have their own identity and superb handmade textile and artwork, exotic woods and marble. Looking closely at the joinery detail of Kismet, she is very intricate with very interesting organic shapes and textures, still keeping an elegant and coherent design as a whole."
Kismet will be an exciting addition to the global charter fleet and is available through Moran Yacht & Ship to selective clients at a weekly rate of €1.2 million. With her experienced crew she will without doubt provide the ultimate experience to remember. She will be cruising her first season in the Caribbean.

M/Y Global (ex Kismet) Completes Refit
Lurssen has completed the refit of M/Y. Global, formerly known as Kismet. She left the shipyard at the end of June and is now cruising in the Mediterranean with her new owners for the summer season.
The hull has been given a beautiful new lease of life with a stunning light grey colour that Tim Morley describes as "a great credit to Lurssen’s refit team and the contractors who undertook the work". Her helicopter deck that incorporates lighting and hinged railings has been enhanced and is now significantly larger and safer for regular helicopter operations.
Espen Oeino was commissioned to draw the new hull lines, maintaining the DNA of the original design, and the owner is delighted with the result. Minor changes have also been made in the interior, in accordance with the new owner's taste and specifications. Kismet was originally delivered in 2007 and measures in at a length of 68m (223ft).
Morley Yachts is the owner's representative and Hill Robinson supervised the refit. She has already been spotted when she left the shipyard as well as a few days later when she arrived in Gibraltar, seen in the picture below.

The Mighty THOR
Project "Thor" which measures 74m (242ft) in length is the newest construction going on at the Lurssen shipyard in Germany. The project is being managed by Moran Yacht & Ship who will be working along side the owner to bring Thor from concept to completion. Not many details have been released but we can say that she is a fully custom project, is a full displacement hull and will have larger interior volume than any other 74m megayacht on the water today.
Her interior and exterior design will come from the drawing board of the Andrew Winch Design studio. Do you think her exterior design resembles two certain Lurssen megayacht's (Polar Star and Northern Star)? We think so. Possibly a new megayacht for a previous lurssen client?

Largest Superyacht in the World Launched
Today the 5th of April 2013 the largest superyacht in the world was launched from its production shed at the Lurssen shipyard in German. As of now she is called 'Azzam' but this could change over the next couple of weeks as her name will be crafted onto her stern and sides for all to see. She measures a whopping 180m (590ft) in length and can reach speeds greater than 30kts by a combination of 2 gas turbines and 2 diesel engines with a total of 94000hp, which is astonishing for a superyacht of her size.
Engineer Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi assembled a world class team which he personally directed in all areas of the development of project Azzam. Under his guidance the original concept of the yacht was developed starting with the overall requirements with regards to general layout, size and performance and exterior style.
His brief was to build a large luxury yacht with an innovative design that would be able to travel at high speed in warm and shallow waters, whilst providing luxurious, sophisticated and modern accommodation to its guests.
The technical engineering was developed by Lurssen, the exterior design by Nauta Yachts and the interior design by Christophe Leoni to create what is, without doubt, the most complex and challenging superyacht which has ever been built.
Lurssen Managing Partner Peter Lurssen proudly said: "When she will be delivered later this year, she will have been in build for only three years following one year of engineering." "She truly represents another milestone in not only our history but yachting history as well" he adds.
Nauta CEO Mario Pedol stated: "When I first saw the scale model before the general presentation to the Principal, I was 100% happy with the outcome and so was the Principal. Such recognition made me confident that we had achieved our goal".
As well as many other features she has a main salon that has a length of 29m and a beam of 18m which is an open plan layout with no pillars or obstructions. No other details about her interior layout and design have been released but when we find out Megayacht Global will bring it to you.
Burgess CEO Jonathan Beckett said: "We are proud to be associated with this extraordinary and unique project as the owners technical consultants. The construction of this yacht with its highly complex technical features has been extremely demanding and challenging. It has been a real team effort between all the professionals involved including ourselves, the builder and the designers".
Her interior decoration was undertaken by the renowned French designer Christophe Leoni "Though Yachting is not my main area of business, I thoroughly enjoyed the cooperation with Nauta and Lurssen and I'm confident that the final yacht is everything and more the owner expects." he said.

"Eclipse" Leaves The Fincantieri Shipyard
The massive Superyacht "Eclipse" has just left the Fincantieri shipyard in Trieste San Marco to conduct sea trials after a four week drydock maintenance project. This relatively short but very large project took 70 workers the whole four weeks to complete, quite staggering when you think about it.
Fincantieri has now made a stand in the world of Superyachts with this project of the worlds largest Superyacht and also the launch of their 134m (439ft) Serene which took place in 2011. Serene is one of the top 10 privately owned Superyachts in the world and was a winner at the wold Superyacht awards.
In addition to construction, repair and refitting, Fincantieri activities also include the development of innovative concepts. Three concept projects, which are being developed on platforms engineered by Fincantieri, have been recently introduced. They have received great interest among the experts and are the 88m (288ft) "Virage88", designed by Andrew Winch, the 145m (475ft) "Fortissimo", a "gas turbine yacht" designed by Ken Freivoch, with an innovative design and a propulsion system capable of a speed of over 35kts, while minimizing environmental impact and the 142m (466ft) "Armonia", styled by Andrea Vallicelli and engineered by Fincantieri Yachts.
