Wally Yachts Launch 50m Sloop 'Better Place'

Wally Yachts, one of the leading builders of innovative sail and power yachts, have successfully launched the sleek and ultra modern blue coloured 50m (164ft) Superyacht Better Place, the world’s largest sloop in carbon fiber (Spars by Hall, and Rigging by Future Fibres). Her sleek, modern, distinctive wally lines were developed by Tripp Design and her interiors by Wetzels Brown Partners. She is also the first ever Sailing Superyacht to be RINA Green Star classified, this means she was designed, constructed and will operated in such a way as to ensure maximum respect for the environment.

Better Place touched the water after the owner’s wife smashed the champagne bottle on the keel bulb during a private ceremony in Ancona, Italy, where the yacht was built at the Wally Europe facility.

'With Better Place, once again Wally opens a new route in yacht design and innovation' enthusiastically says Luca Bassani Antivari, Wally Founder, President and head of the R&D 'We succeeded in delivering an environmental friendly and breakthrough Wally 50m with aggressive and sleek lines of a true performance sailing yacht, rather than the motor sailer look typical of this class of yachts.'

'Better Place introduces innovative concepts in the round-the-world mega yacht cruisers' continues Bassani 'such as big volumes associated with ultra light displacement, latest diesel electric propulsion system, staysail simplified system, deckhouse with full height windows, uniquely large open-air living areas, raised bulwark, aft owner’s suite with portholes and hatches on four sides and direct access to the Terrace-on-the-sea.'

She will be able to accommodate 10 guests or 12 with the use of the two pullmans found in two of the guest cabins. The accommodation is split up into a full beam owners stateroom that includes
an office area, lounge area with sofa, dressing room, bathroom with separate shower room and separate toilet. The other guest cabins are, 2 family cabins with two twins and one with the addition of a pullman and 2 double guest cabins one with a pullman. All of the cabins have en suite showers and bathrooms.

The deck is spacious and clutter free just like most Wally's you see today. Some of her main features include the black jacuzzi forward on the main deck which is positioned beneath deck level so it can be easily covered up to become invisible when not in use. The 100sqm upper sundeck which can be accessed by a stairs either inside or outside, from this deck the owner can take control at the helm and navigate his way through the ocean as the chef cooks the bbq for dinner. The large aft deck that is accessed by stairs leading down from the main deck would be the perfect place for relaxation while at anchor. See the slide show below for some pictures during construction to launching.

The delivery of Better Place is scheduled at the end of June, when the owners will start their cruise around the Mediterranean, where she will certainly turn heads with her bright blue hull.
