Piriou Win Historic Expedition Yacht Order

The French shipyard Piriou have signed a historic order that will take them into the exploration yacht market. She will measure 76m (249ft) in length and has classic exterior lines and styling. She has the potential to become one of the greatest and well known expedition yachts built to date and rival the likes of 'Le Grand Bleu' and 'Octopus'. She will be built in Concarneau in the North West of France and her European owner will be able to take delivery of her in 36 months time.

She will be a transoceanic exploration ship designed to carry out prolonged, long distance voyages in extreme temperatures (-20°C/+50°C) both at sea, and in rivers and Large Lakes with a high degree of reliability in all conditions encountered. She will also have 3 different class ratings that will be; Ice IC, Cleanship and Passenger Ship.

After her launch in 36 months time she will be put to the test taking engineers, scientists and technicians on long-distance missions to explore and research the worlds oceans furthering our knowledge of the oceans. The crew and guests on board will raise questions relating to the future of our planet aimed to increase the awareness of environmental issues in the general public and in young people.

She will have the capability to carry all of your typical exploration toys, including over sized tenders and a water plane for those hard to reach places. The oceans are hers to explore and we look forward to hearing about her construction progress over the coming months, and her exploration trips in the future.
