Amels Sell New Megayacht

The sale of the newest Amels megayacht which measures 55m (180ft) in length was orchestrated by Burgess in Monaco, the owners went for a 55m megayacht by the Dutch builder Amels with interiors customised to the owners wishes by designer Christian Liaigre. She will be delivered to her new owners in May 2015, a phenomenally quick delivery time for a megayacht of this size.

"In just 16 months, these owners will be enjoying a very personal yacht, clearly tailored to their own strong appreciation of artistry and refined lifestyle," commented Amels CEO Rob Luijendijk. "Across the industry we see delivery time as increasingly pivotal in owners decision making, and this new order brokered by Burgess confirms our leadership in this regard. Our trusted limited editions platform eliminates technical risk and allows the owners to focus on customising the fun parts and they know their megayacht will be delivered on time. We're so confident that, even while they're still reviewing design drawings, we'd encourage them to finalise their 2015 summer plans with this beautiful yacht."

The owners suite will feature a folding balcony, and the main saloon will also feature a port and starboard folding balcony, opening the inside up to the outside world. Other features onboard include a touch and go helideck and an extensive beach club that includes space for watertoys, a steam room and swimming platform with integrated stairs.

The owners selected the Paris based contemporary interior architect Christian Liaigre to create the interiors. This is the first time the international design house has worked on an Amels megayacht. Her exterior design is by award the winning British designer Tim Heywood. She will be able to accommodate up to 12 guests and reach a maximum speed of 15.5kts.

67m SEA AXE On Sea Trials

She is currently named 6711 and moved through the water where she reached speeds of 22kts during her sea trials. For those of you who don't know she is Damen's newest 67m SEA AXE, an advanced support vessel. Her grey hull and white superstructure really stand out like some sort of army destroyer and are faired and painted to superyacht standard.

She is ahead of schedule and due for delivery to her new owner this month, 6711 has been configured with an extensive dive centre, including its own decompression chamber. Her deck space, excluding fully certified helipad is an impressive 275 sqm.

Rob Luijendijk from Amels, commented: "We are seeing an increasing number of superyacht owners appreciate the benefits of a well-equipped support vessel customised to their particular requirements. This is why we are developing even larger options up to 90m in length. Damen has already delivered three yacht support vessels and has another four under construction."

The 6711 build project was managed in co-operation with Imperial, the yacht management company which acted as the broker, owner's representative and construction project manager. Imperial's technical team also made a substantial contribution to developing a state-of-the-art specification and additional outfitting.

Evgeniy Kochman CEO of Imperial commented: "This project continues a long-term co-operation between Imperial and Amels. The 6711 has been a very interesting project, a special type of support vessel with a highly customized and very practical layout whereas the building process at Damen the runs like clockwork."

Sale of first Limited Edition Amels 242

Amels has sold its first Limited Edition Amels 242. She is due for delivery in 2016 and construction of the 74m (242ft) Tim Heywood design is already well underway. Andrew Winch has been commissioned to style the interior, which will include two generously sized VIP cabins situated on main deck, each of which is equipped with a bedroom, office, guest suite and dressing room.

Part of Heywood's secret in creating such a streamlined exterior for the 242 is her very long aft deck, which features a large swimming pool, 6.5m by 3.5m. The yacht will be fitted with a dedicated owner's deck with 240 sqm of space. Some of the features include a forward looking owner's suite, his and her bathrooms and an owner's office. Aft is the owne's lounge, with large sliding windows capable of making the lounge an inside or outside area.

Located centrally on lower deck is a large, full-beam spa, with sauna, steam room, gym and fold down beach platform, ideal for taking a dive into the sea from the side of the yacht. The watersports garage is large enough to hold two 9.5m tenders, jet skis and other assorted water toys.

Amels chief executive Rob Luijendijk commented: "We are really pleased to have sold the first Amels 242, and it is great to be working once again with Moran Yacht & Ship on this exciting project. We have created the perfect balance between full custom and semi-custom construction, proven by the fact that we now have all five models in the Limited Editions range in build, from the Amels 180 up to the Amels 272. Tim Heywood's avant-garde design for the Amels 199 really turned heads at the Monaco Yacht Show, and this model is now widely acknowledged to be setting a new benchmark for the 60m luxury sector."

This time period is great for owners as it allows them to get their hands on their new toy in a relatively short period of time. The owner who is originally from South America has incorporated into the design many innovative and advanced features which we will gain information on later in the project cycle. The yard currently has five designs in the limited edition 199 series that range from 55m (180ft) to 83m (272ft).

The Amels 199 Is Born

The first Amels 199 "Event" has been christened at the Amels yard in Vlissingen Holland. In a few weeks from now she will make her maiden voyage up to the cool Norwegian waters to explore the magnificent fjords.

During the ceremony Event's owner thanked the Amels workforce who were there to enjoy the moment after their many months of dedication and hard work. The honour of christening the yacht was given to Laura Sessa, the designer who worked closely with the owner in creating an interior that complements the bold exterior line designed by Tim Heywood.

For Tim Heywood, seeing Event in all her glory was a special moment. "I'm so pleased that Amels and the owner of Event shared my passion for such a thrilling looking design as the Amels 199," said the British designer. "On paper and in concept form the scimitar bow and reverse tumblehome features of the design looked very exciting, and now to see the reality is a dream come true."

After her maiden voyage to Norway she will make her way back down to the Med where she will be available for charter before she attends the Monaco Yacht Show in September.

Second 67m SEA AXE Sold By Amels

This style is really starting to catch on as Dutch superyacht builder Amels has sold the second Damen built SEA AXE 6711, a 67m (220ft) Fast Yacht Support vessel, which is due for delivery in spring 2014. It will have many similarities to Garçon, the SEA AXE 6711 which made an impressive appearance at the Monaco yacht show earlier in the year, although there are some interesting differences too.

In co-operation with Imperial, a yacht management company which is known by its portfolio of prestigious superyachts build under its supervision, this latest SEA AXE is being constructed with an extensive dive area, designed specifically for scuba diving expeditions. The platform is also being equipped with a LY2 certified helipad, with a maximum take off load of 5,000kg and a D value (diameter) of 14. This makes the helipad able to accommodate a Eurocopter Dauphin or an Agusta Grand. The working deck will be equipped with a crane with a maximum working load of 6.6 tons at a reach of 16.6m.

Managing director Rob Luijendijk commented: "One of the things that owners and captains noted about Garçon at the Monaco Yacht Show was the potential dual-purpose of a vessel like the SEA AXE. They can see the potential as a support ship to a superyacht, particularly the opportunity to win back valuable luxury space on the mothership, because much larger tenders and a greater selection of watertoys can be stowed with ease on the SEA AXE. But some are also excited by the concept of owning a high-performance expedition vessel, and the decision to fit a customised scuba diving centre on this latest SEA AXE 6711 project is an example of how versatile this kind of vessel can be.
We are pleased to be working on delivering this project with our partners at Imperial, with whom we have built up an excellent relationship after many shared superyacht projects. With her superyacht paint finish, Bolidt teak and several luxury areas including the bridge and the Beach Club, the SEA AXE is very much at home in the world of superyachting - even if her primary function is as a high-performance support vessel."

You can be sure that there will be a lot more of these rugged Superyachts gracing the worlds oceans over the next few years as their dual purpose as a support vessel and an expedition yacht will meet the needs of a wide range of owners.

SeaAxe 67m 'Garcon' To Attend The Monaco Yacht Show

The sleek axe bowed 67m SeaAxe yacht 'Garcon' will be attending the 2012 Monaco Yacht Show in September. She was constructed at Damen Shipyards in Holland, and the project was coordinated by Moran Yachts & Ship.

The SeaAxe 6711 is a fast yacht support vessel that has 235m2 of deck space for toys such as tenders, jet skis, sailing dinghies, helicopters, submarines, sea planes and what ever other toys the owner wants to bring on voyages around the world. The helipad is fully SOLAS certified and has a 5000kg take off weight for commercial use. The yachts design can be altered slightly, with an optional hanger to cover the toys from the worst of the elements.

With its unique axe bow and underwater shape she will be able to reach speeds of 18-25kts in all weather and sea conditions. Even though she is a support vessel to carry toys and cargo for the owner don't let that fool you, she will have an interior that is of Superyacht standard.

The SeaAxe range has already proven successful with the 37m and 50m models that are already active for their Superyacht owners, and a second 6711 model is currently under construction. For more information visit www.amels-holland.com

The Amels 65m 'Sea Rhapsody' Gets Musical Christening

On Friday the 20th of April 2012 the 65m (213ft) Amels 'Sea Rhapsody' was christened and delivered to her owners in a magnificent ceremony that was attended by more than 600 people. Tim Heywood who drew the exterior lines and Andrew Winch who designed the interior also attended the event, and Tim's external lines stood out beautifully as the different coloured beams of light reflected off the yacht.

The guests at the event were all treated to a video on a big screen, which detailed the building process. Then Sea Rhapsody was serenaded by a choir on her fore deck, accompanied by a live orchestra, a great spectacle for all to see.

Amels managing director Rob Luijendijk said 'Sea Rhapsody is a unique piece of art, she looks stunning and we're very proud of this project. We thank the owners for their trust in Amels.' Representing the owners, Nicholas Dean of Ocean Independence said: 'The owners cannot wait for their first family cruise and truly enjoyed the building process.'

Sea Rhapsody's interior designed by Andrew Winch shows the owners love for Asia by creating a soft and harmonious decorative scheme inspired by Asian style.

Major Refit Completed For The 74m 'ILONA' By Amels

The 74m (243ft) ILONA returned to her birth place at the Amels yard in Holland last August where she under went a successful 8 month refit, which included the addition of a helipad and a pool with movable floor. These were the changes the owner wanted to make to the yacht especially the large helipad so that he could accommodate his Agusta 109 Grand New helicopter, check out the below video for the first landing of the helicopter during her sea trials.

An interesting feature is the swimming pool with movable floor that enables the pool to be replaced by an additional deck space depending on the needs of the owner and guests. The pool can be filled with up to 40,000 liters of sea water, which is then purified through a filtration system. The water can be heated up to 6 degrees higher than the original sea temperature in just one hour. To make way for the swimming pool the below deck helicopter hanger was removed, now he can keep his helicopter up top on the helipad.

Due to the work load and the short period to complete the refit, the yard constructed the deck extensions prior to the yachts arrival at the yard, a great idea to complete the project in time. Justin Redman of Redman Whiteley Dixon commented 'Adding the additional superstructure to accommodate the helipad would have affected the lines of the yacht, so we extended the owners deck and the bridge deck by 2 meters in order to bring the aesthetic appearance back into balance. We also used metallic gray paint to reduce the visual impact of the helideck, and the overall result is that the yacht, despite all the changes, looks every bit as streamlined and well proportioned as before'
