Photo: Paolo Zitti

ISA Yachts in Ancona, Italy launched their newest addition to their 50m (164ft) series last Thursday the 24th of May at a ceremony which was attended by the owner, his family and a large group of close friends. She was christened Bella Anna and is the third Megayacht launched in ISA's 50m series.

The below photo was taken at the ISA yard 2 months ago while Bella Anna was still been finished inside her heat shrink tent. Zuretti Interior Design had the task of taking on the interior design and it was the first time that they have worked on a project with ISA. Keep you eyes open this summer if you are in the Med as Bella Anna will be traveling around after her delivery which is scheduled for July 2012.

The Vicem Vulcan 46m Nears Completion

The Turkish shipyard Vicem have just sold their their first Vulcan 46m (151ft) from the Vulcan series, that's nearing completion at the yard. The Yacht was sold to a British Business man at a list price of $27,000,000 and is on schedule to hit the water at the end of June 2012.

With the construction of the Vulcan 46m, Vicem have entered into the composite Megayacht market with the assistance of top design firm Frank Mulder who designed the fast exterior lines. Vicem wanted to set out to build a 46m semi displacement which is lighter and faster than the industry standard. From achieving this she will be able to reach a top speed of 26kts, while maintaining high efficiency cruising and a range of 4,000nm at a speed of 12kts.

She has three decks plus the sun deck where owner and guests can enjoy the sun. Her main feature is the open atrium design that provides 45 feet of unbroken natural lighting, from the very top of the sun deck all the way down to the lower deck. She will be a very open yacht with natural light beaming throughout the inside emphasizing her fantastic interior which has been designed by the famous studio Art-Line.

The very impressive owners suite forward on the main deck incorporates the full 30ft beam of the yacht and also includes a wrap around entry, office and private gym. The rest of the guest cabins are on the lower deck and include a full beam VIP cabin, 2 double and 2 twin cabins, giving a total accommodation for up to 12 guests as well as the owners.

Her fast lines and sharp two tone paint scheme will certainly create a lot of interest within the yachting industry and the general public when she is launched next month.

Lurssen Move Worlds Largest Megayacht

Wow! two in the space of a few days, Lurssen have done it again and launched the worlds largest Megayacht that was moved to a different shed for completion. She reportedly measures an astonishing 180m (590'6") which makes her the worlds largest by 60ft. This just a few days after they launched Topaz which when completed will be the worlds 5th largest Megayacht at a length of 144m (472'4") but some sources suggest that she is slightly longer at 147m.

No details have been released yet but the yachts name 'Azzam' has been referenced by a few well known sources. Azzam means determined in Arabic and the Abu Dhabi Volvo 70 that is currently competing in the Volvo Ocean Race also has the same name. It starts you speculating where the owners of this Megayacht are from, Dubai maybe?

The below video Shows Azzam leaving the shed and being carefully maneuvered passed Topaz on the dock.

Moonen Progress With 42m 'Sofia'

The Dutch shipyard Moonen are making fast progress with the construction of their largest yacht to date, the 42m (137ft) Sofia. As with any custom project design alterations are still being made to meet the owners requirements, as for an earlier change the owner decided to extended the yacht by a further 4 feet so that she could carry a 3 person submarine, 1 captain and 2 guests that is built by U-boatworx. The owners involvement in the project adds a sense of excitement at the shipyard as they make progress in a key milestone in the yards history.

Some of the recent changes that the owner has made are an upgrade in the dashboard to an integrated foil bridge and a highly sophisticated entertainment system, that has the multi room Samsung Smart LED TVs, lighting, blinds and climate control all controlled via an iPad, now that's technology for you.

One of the best creative and innovative design features that we have seen on a Supeyacht is the launching crane for the submarine. The crane is hidden under the aft deck and can be opened out to launch the submarine. This feature also doubles up to form an easy access dock for the tender by extending out over the water from the stern.

She will be able to accommodate 10 guests with the owners full beam suite forward on the main deck, with the guest accommodation on the lower deck consisting of 2 double and 2 twin cabins all of which are ensuite. Mega Yacht Global will be keeping a close eye on this very exciting project and its progression over the coming months.

Proteksan & Turquoise's New In Build 75m

Proteksan & Turquoise currently have a 75m (246ft) project NB55 in construction at their facility in Turkey. The project has two different exterior styles for the owner to choose from, one which has a longer sheer line and incorporates a fully glazed window recess along the main deck giving an elegant and sleek profile. The alternative style has a modified sheer line that is shorter and includes large vertical windows as seen in the image below. In both styles the guest accommodation is not in the traditional place on the lower deck, but forward on the main deck. This gives the guests spacious cabins with spectacular views from the large windows that are incorporated into the hull, seen below. The construction is at a stage where the superstructure can still be modified to the owners choice of design. She has been designed by Andrew Winch of Andrew Winch Designs and includes several specific and creative features, like the spa beach balcony and arrival dock, the aft swim stairs and open beach club terrace. There are other possibilities for customization so the owner can truly create the yacht of his/her dreams. There are plenty of open air spaces, seating arrangements and relaxation areas, such as the upper sun deck that includes sunning areas, a bar and a pool for guests to enjoy.

The wheelhouse deck has a large multifunctional room aft which opens onto a unique inside/outside gym and exercise terrace which could also be transformed into an owners library or a luxurious sunset bar. Included in her many features is the helicopter landing pad on the foredeck for easy transportation.

The owners stateroom is forward on the upper deck and is entirely private from the guest areas. This stateroom is magnificent and has some great features like the forward facing room with spectacular views, a private balcony/terrace forward with jacuzzi, His and Her bathrooms and an office for the all important work. The guest accommodation forward on the main deck includes a full beam VIP suite and 4 double cabins all of which are ensuite.

This is the perfect yacht for an owner who wants to buy at the construction stage but still has the power to fully create the yacht of his/her dreams.

Double Take For Heesen Yachts

The Dutch shipyard Heesen this week has just signed a contract to build a new 42m (132ft) fast displacement and have also sold their 47m (154ft) displacement project California to delighted owners that will take the delivery next month, June 2012. This is a great week for the yard in terms of new builds and sales, and adds to an order book that consists of 12 Megayachts that will all be delivered to their owners by the end of 2015, Wow now that's an order book.

The 42m Fast Displacement

The 42m fast displacement (seen in the below image) will be the first Heesen hull with to be equipped with Hull Vane. Created by Piet Van Oossanen from Oossanen Naval Architects, Hull Vane is a foil fitted below the hull that can reduce resistance through the water by 24% at maximum speed, achieving an average reduction in drag of nearly 18% over the entire speed range.

Hull Vane also reduces the motion and acceleration of the yacht in heavy seas due to the damping effect of the foil below the hull. This results in a much more comfortable motion for guests in heavy seas.

Her exterior lines have been designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects. Twelve guests will sleep in 6 cabins: the owners have two suites one which is positioned aft on the upper deck and includes a gym, the second is located in the traditional place forward on the main deck and includes a starboard balcony, a studio and a large walk-in closet. The guest accommodation is located on the lower deck and feature 2 double and 2 twin cabins all of which have private ensuite bathrooms.

This innovative Megayacht project is due for completion in 2014 and its going to be presented to the yachting community at the Monaco Yacht Club on September 19th.

The 47m Project California

Project California is the 9th Megayacht in Heesen's award winning 47m displacement class. Again Frank Laupman of Omega Architects is responsible for the smooth exterior lines of this award winning yacht. Bannenberg & Rowell Design have taken the interior decor back to styles that were seen in California in the 1940s and 1950s, with the main deck taking on the styling of the classic Hollywood era with the use of bleached wenge floorboards, white elm and stainless steel paneling, leather and marble. The combination of the different woods used was inspired by custom made surfboards built from recycled timber.

She will have a maximum speed of 15kts, with a range of 4,000nm at a speed of 12kts. She is scheduled for delivery to her new owners in June 2012.

Benetti Launch New 121' Classic

This is Benetti's second Megayacht launch in the last 2 weeks. Last Wednesday, 16th May, the Italian yard launched their newest yacht in the 121' Classic range, this was just a few days after they launched their first yacht in the Supreme Classic 132' range, (see image at the end of the article). The launching ceremony last week for the 121' Classic was attended by the owner and his family, technical personnel, yard staff and everyone who had been evolved in the project over the last 7 months.

The 121' shows the classic and traditional lines of the Benetti Class range, while incorporating a functional internal layout giving the owners and their guests a great sense of space and freedom. Comfortable, large external areas, relaxation areas and stylish interiors are the key features of a yacht designed for long range journeys over 3,400nm.

This technical launch marks the beginning of a series of on the water testing that will take place over the next few weeks. The tests will include inspections of the hull, engines and on-board systems while finishing and outfitting will continue according to the production schedule.

Below you can see Benetti's Supreme Classic 132' that was launched a few days previous. The Supreme Classic is not just a new model to complete the Benetti Class range, it is also the first model built and outfitted in the Lucca Dockyard, the company's new 4200m2 facility.

Kingship Progress with 44m 'Green Voyager'

Kingship Marine from China and Axis Group Yacht Design from Viareggio, Italy have teamed up to build the 44m (144ft) 'Green Voyager' project which is making fast progress as seen in the above image. Green Voyager is a revolutionary new design concept that would be perfect for an owner who wishes to travel in luxurious comfort in a highly efficient yacht.

The efficiency of this Superyacht comes from its distinctive plumb (vertical) bow. The bow extends the waterline length until it is only 50cm shorter than the yachts overall length, thus producing a very low underwater drag. Kingship Marine have confirmed from tank testing that this hull shape uses minimum fuel consumption and offers an increase in propulsion efficiency of 16-18%. Due to this she will have an excellent cruising performance at a speed of 16kts.

Green Voyagers design connects owners and guests to the environment by the use of light and full glass sliding doors in the sky lounge, main saloon and dining area. Guests will have a great sense of space by Green Voyager bringing the outdoors inside. You can see in the image below the large floor to ceiling sliding doors on either side.

One of her main features is the large lounge seating area on the front of the upper deck, a rarity for a yacht of this size. She will be able to accommodate a total of 10 guests in 5 cabins which include the owners full beam master cabin which has his and her bathrooms and located forward on the main deck. The other 2 double and 2 twin cabins all en suite are located amidships on the lower deck. Green Voyager is scheduled for launch in late 2013.

'Green Voyager is a new conception with high efficiency, environmentally friendly yacht with an innovative design, you get both the benefits of both a modern and traditional Superyacht'.

Sunrise Yachts Signs Contract For Second 63m

The Antalya based yacht builder Sunrise Yachts just signed a new contract for their second 63m (206ft) project for a European client introduced by YMG Yacht Management Group Switzerland.

The new 63m project is based on the same hull as the 63m currently under construction at the shipyard. She will be one of the largest motor yachts ever built in Turkey at nearly 1,400 GRT. She will be one of the largest yachts in its length category and offers spectacular volumes while being able to access most marinas, a winning combination and a critical requirement for the owner.

She will be able to accommodate 12 guests in 6 cabins and have a crew of 18, she will have a maximum speed of 17kts and a range of 4,500nm at cruising speed. The Espen Oenio designed Megayacht will be delivered in 2014 and Mega Yacht Global will keep you up to date on the progress of the project.

Hakvoort's 55m World Cruiser

The Dutch shipyard Hakvoort have joined with Moran Yacht & Ship for their new 55m (180ft) project. Together they have designed a semi custom 55m Superyacht with a fast displacement hull to reach speeds of up to 30kts. She will be available in different layout configurations for the owner to customise to his/her desire. One of her more interesting features is the touch and go helipad located forward on the sundeck, as seen in the below image. This helipad is suitable for a maximum helicopter weight of 2000 gross tonnes.

She will be able to accommodate 12 guests in 6 cabins, which include a full beam owners suite which is forward on the main deck and has an en suite bathroom with his and her heads. Adjacent to the owners suite is a private office/saloon. The other 5 cabins are located on the lower deck and include a spacious VIP cabin and 4 double cabins. The double cabins can be changed to twin cabins depending on the set up the owner chooses during the build.

She will feature an adjustable MTU engine package providing various top speeds. The clever design shows a very efficient fuel consumption 15% lower than other displacement hull designs found in market today. For top speeds of over 17kts the hull needs to be built out of aluminum. The top speeds that she can reach with an aluminum hull and depending on the engine package are 21kts, 24kts and 27kts.

Le Grand Bleu, The King Of Expedition Yachts

Last week on Wednesday the 16th of May one of the largest yachts in the world Le Grand Bleu arrived into Valencia's Americas Cup Port, La Marina Real Juan Carlos. She measures 112.80m (370ft) in length, placing her at the number 20 spot in the list of the worlds top 100 privately owned Superyachts. She was meant to dock in the main cargo port but surprisingly it was too shallow for her 4.60m (15ft) draft, so she made her way into La Marina Real Juan Carlos.

She is your true go anywhere expedition yacht that means business, with her 75ft Frers designed sailboat and 60-70ft power boat on the aft deck. She was launched in 2000 from the German shipyard Bremer Vulkan who coordinated with Kusch Yachts who were responsible for the naval architecture and bold exterior lines. Her interior design was left to the design skills of Bannenberg & Rowell Design, who gave her a modern interior style and feel.

She can accommodate up to 20 guests and a crew of 35 who keep her pristine for when the guests arrive at a moments notice. She has a top speed of 17kts and if the sailing yacht and motor boat on the aft deck wasn't enough she also has helicopter pad capability. Le Grand Bleu used to be owned by Paul Allen before she was purchased by Roman Abramovich and then reportedly given as a gift to Eugene Shvidler.

Keep track of Le Grand Bleu by clicking on the yacht tracking section in the above page bar and leave a comment below with your thoughts on this magnificent expedition yacht.

Lurssen Launch Their 2nd Largest To Date 144m 'Topaz'

Yesterday the German shipyard Lurssen, just launched their 2nd largest Superyacht to date the 144m (472'4") Topaz. She goes straight in to the list of the top 100 privately owned yachts at position number 5. Not much is known about this monster of a Superyacht as she has been kept top secret throughout her construction.

We can tell you that she is 144m in length but some reports suggest that she is slightly larger at 147m, she has a a gross tonnage of 11,589 and a beam of 21.50m. We can presume by her design features from some of the pictures floating around the internet that her designer might be the renowned Tim Heywood but this cannot be confirmed.

There is also the speculation and guessing game going on at the moment as to who the owner is, but what we can tell you that it's all speculation. The usual guesses are appearing such as a member of the Saudi Royal Family, a Russian billionaire and also a family from Dubai. As not much is known about Topaz and the secrecy of the project, still even after her launch we believe the guessing game will continue for a lot longer.

If you have any pictures of Topaz please send them to Mega Yacht Global at: megayachtglobal@gmail.com

The below video is courtesy of The Yacht Photo for more pictures of Topaz follow the link.

'Axantha II' A Beautiful Expedition Yacht

Last month at the Antibes Yacht Show, Mega Yacht Global had the pleasure touring this fantastic 43m (141ft) expedition yacht by JFA Yachts, Axantha II. She was launched last year 2011, in April for an experienced and repeat owner who owned the first Axantha by JFA Yachts. Axantha II's bold shape and profile was designed by the naval architects Vripack. She is only destined for one thing 'Exploration'.

After stepping aboard we first entered the main saloon where you first notice the perfect layout of the bar, seating and dining area seen in the picture below. The main saloon is decorated in American Cherry wood with teak floors, cream carpets, blue fabric covered seats and an assortment of classic yacht paintings. The interior of the saloon along with the large windows and aft sliding doors to the outdoors gives a warm, relaxed atmosphere. This atmosphere and interior styling is continued as you move through the yacht.

The upper deck is the owners private saloon/study/library which is accessed by 2 staircases from the lower deck. Their is a large desk on the starboard side with a view of the aft deck and all the facilities for a computer and office equipment. This is where the owner would catch up on his emails as his wife relaxed on the aft deck which is accessed through a fully glazed semicircular door that opens up to nearly the entire width of the superstructure.

As you move up through the yacht from the upper deck you arrive in the wheelhouse which has a seating area for three guests for those interesting passages, like the Northwest Passage and Panama Canal. As you exit the wheelhouse via the upper stairs you arrive out on the vast upper sundeck which also houses two laser sailing dinghies. This deck can either be accessed by the stairs from the wheelhouse or an external stairs from the deck below. Higher still is the compass deck and because of its height it is the perfect place to discover anchorages, ports, fjords or just to take in the breathtaking views.

As you can see in the above picture taken from the compass deck the forward deck area is used for double tender storage. The door forward in one access the crew have to their cabins and living area, the other access is from inside on the lower deck. All of the guest and owner accommodation is on the lower deck and includes a full beam owners cabin with seating area, 3 guest double cabins and a twin cabin with a pullman. Ten guests including the owners will be very comfortable for the long expedition voyages.

For further information on Axantha II charter rates please visit Neo Yachting.
