Oceanic Yachts Launch Hull #1

Oceanic Yachts in Italy have just launched hull #1 in their ultra modern new line of explorer the 90' STS which was sold last January 2014. She will make its world debut in September during the Cannes Yachting Festival 2014 which runs from the 9th -14th.

She measures a total length of 27.4m (90ft). Her accommodation will include an upper deck owner's suite with private terrace and a VIP plus two guest cabins located on the lower deck. The interior design was undertaken by the in-house design studio in close collaboration with the owner. The primary timber used throughout consists of limed Grey Oak, Macassar Ebony, Wenge, lacquered wood and wood floors.

Her convertible aft deck has oversized modular sofas, the capability to stow a 6.50m diesel powered SACS tender while two 3-seater personal water-crafts, two Seabobs and one JetLev will be stored in the transom garage. An additional stand-up JetSki will be kept on the deck, right under the 1.5 ton capacity crane. This is plenty of toys for the owner and guests to enjoy.

She maintains the brand new philosophy at Oceanic Yachts whose main features are: extended outdoor and indoor living volumes, ability to carry large toys and tenders, high performance and ability to navigate at economic speed with low fuel consumption, resulting in reduced overall operating costs.

Expedition Yacht "Kahu" Sold

Freedom Marine has just sold the beautiful and rugged 37m (122ft) expedition yacht "Kahu".

Kahu is an Ex-New Zealand Navy "Moa" class vessel. She was transformed in 2012 into a world expedition yacht by Fitzroy Yachts of New Zealand. She has a steel hull with a new aluminum superstructure and new interior as seen in the video below. Her design allows for her owners to cruise and explore the world's oceans in comfort and style. Since her transformation in 2012 she has explored the south pacific, Hawaii and the pacific northwest. She has been in bays and coves seen by only a handful of people! She is now cruising with her new family where they will enjoy her for many years to come exploring the world.

Kahu was asking $2,900,000 USD.

Erdevicki Superyacht Design's New Explorer

Erdevicki superyacht design have presented their newest creation, the modernisation of a 38m (125ft) trawler. The brief was to minimise any structural changes to the hull and accommodation while updating the exterior look of the trawler into a modern day explorer. The design needed to incorporate modern exterior lines and curves to soften the harsh rugged appearance of the trawler.

The original portholes in the hull were retained with the six mid-hull ones enlarged to allow more light to the lower deck. The large windows on the main deck are integrated together to give a stunning panoramic appearance which will let in more natural light and give great outside views.

The superstructure has been redesigned with rounded curves for a softer look and the fly bridge remains the same original size but with a larger wrap around windshield. The upper deck will be able to carry two tenders, a dinghy and two jet skis which are all handled by a hydraulic crane that's stowed neatly on the deck.

She will have accommodation for 10 – 11 guests in one master suit and four double guest cabins, one with an additional pullman berth. The crew of 6 or 7 is accommodated in four cabins that include the captains plus three doubles. She will have a range of 4000nm at a cruising speed of 12kts.

All New Explorers For 2014

Oceanic Yachts is an exciting new line of megayachts from Cantieri Navale di Ostia – Canados. A range of fast explorers ranging from 27m (90ft) to 43m (140ft), which is the result of a close interaction with their customers over the 66 years the Italian builder has been up and running.

Some of the main features are: extended outdoor and indoor living volumes, ability to carry large toys and tenders, high performance and ability to navigate at economic speed with low fuel consumption which results in reduced overall operating costs.

They also designed and developed an innovative hull concept named "Displanning", a combination of the words 'displacement' and 'planning'. The "Displanning" hull concept offers the best of both displacement and semi-planning configurations, more specifically displacement at speeds under 14kts and semi-planning above that speed. The displacement speeds offer low consumption and longer range, while semi-planning offers higher performance.

The 27m pocket explorer as seen in the image below has those iconic smooth Italian lines. She will be available in two engine configurations, either a straight diesel or an electric diesel both of which will give a maximum speed of 27.5kts. Her older sister the 43m will have a top speed of 27kts and a range of 4,900nm at a speed of 8.5kts. She also has those smooth Italian exterior lines and a large aft deck for tender and toy storage on those long expeditions. 

Gearing Up For Delivery

Nordhavn's flagship the N120 is gearing up for her long delivery voyage from the P.A.E yard on the south coast of China to her new home in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is the first hull in the 120 series and is currently undergoing her final sea trials in preparation for her maiden voyage which is scheduled for the end of this month.

The delivery crew will include P.A.E vice president Jim Leishman, naval architect Jeff Leishman, the excited new owner and some the factory staff. She will only stop off once in Hong Kong throughout her whole 5,000nm voyage but if this was my maiden voyage I think a pit-stop in the South Pacific island maybe "Bora Bora" would have to be incorporated into the planning, wouldn't you agree?

Sergio Cutolo's Spacious 57m Explorer Design

Sergio Cutolo, founder of the the Italian design studio Hydro Tech has once again used his extensive experience in explorer design to produce another bold explorer concept. This concept measures 57m (187ft) in length and special attention has been taken to optimize the exterior and interior spaces to maximise the comfort.

This has made it possible for her to be equipped with a wider range of features usually only seen on larger superyachts, for instance a touch and go helipad can be found on the aft deck along with storage for large tenders on either side of the aft deck. This will free up space in the garage where a spacious beach club, sauna and spa area or a dedicated storage area for a personal submarine could be created.

As she has been designed with the intention of exploring in extreme hot and cold climates guest can access the whole yacht without the need to go through any external areas. There is even a corridor located on the lower deck that goes through the engine room to the garage so that the toys can be accessed and setup without braving the elements outside.

Her interior layout offers guests four double cabins, plus a VIP cabin, while a full deck is entirely dedicated to the owner which boasts a huge cabin with forward facing windows that lead out onto a private terrace forward.

She will be equipped with twin MTU 12v 4000 M63 engines that will power her to a top speed of 16kts and a cruising speed of 15kts. Her range at 13kts will be around 5,500nm.

Tony Castro's New Expedition Design

Tony Castro Design have just sent Mega Yacht Global renderings of their new 49m (160ft) expedition superyacht design. She is a great example of the comfortable expedition designs that you see out there today. Owners can travel and explore the worlds oceans in comfort and style, which Tony Castro have definitely captured in this beautiful 49m design.

She has a full beam saloon with panoramic views as well as the all important upper observation deck for catching glimpses of those rare animals, the deck also houses a pool and spa. Aft on the upper deck you will find a helipad where guests can leave the yacht via helicopter to get a closer look at their surroundings.

Her interior can comfortable accommodate 12 guests in 6 staterooms. There is a private deck for the owner, a full beam VIP suite on them main deck with a fold down terrace as well as four guest cabins on the lower deck.

Scaro Design's New 39m Expedition Yacht

Expedition yacht designs seem to be all the rage at the moment and the Turkish design studio Scaro have joined in with their beautifully designed two-toned 39m (128ft) expedition yacht. She is your modern day expedition yacht with large exterior and interior spaces, perfect for the open ocean.

There are two salon areas, the upper salon which is used as the dining area while the main salon acts as the lounge area where the aft doors can fully be opened transforming the lounge to a huge entertainment area together with the aft deck. The interiors are designed to be soft and homely yet have that attractive modern feel.

  

The aft deck is ideal for crowded parties and entertaining, and when not busy with the parties it can accommodate a tender of 11m (36ft). The aft garage door opens turning into a big swimming platform and the upper mast area also hides as a small wellness area including a sauna and a dayhead. Forward of the mast area is a whirlpool surrounded by comfy sunbathing beds.

She can accommodate up to 10 guests and 9 crew. The master cabin, located forward spans across two decks. The upper level is for living and sleeping while the lower (and more hidden) level has the bathroom and hydromassage pool.

A New Frontier For Sanlorenzo

The Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo have decided to tap into the expedition yacht market with this beautifully designed 42m (138ft) expedition yacht. Most Superyachts adventures mean hopping from port to port around the Mediterraneans most glamorous and prestigious areas or moving from one cove to another in the Caribbean, but the Sanlorenzo 42m will bring the comfort and service that's found in Monte Carlo to the extreme ends of the Earth. From Greenland to Alaska and further a field to Patagonia and French Polynesia.

more toys, more extreme and more enjoyment on board."

The 42EXP will allow owners to explorer the un-spoilt and most remote corners of the Earth for months at a time in comfort, with a more fuel efficient yacht. She is perfect for those who wish to downsize but keep a remarkable amount of volume. Great attention is paid to the environment, as she is green plus certified and can remain in a secluded bay for 48hrs without turning on a generator, getting rid of vibrations and noise for a more relaxing stay.

Her accommodation will consist of four guest cabins on the lower deck and one full beam owners suite on the main deck. The crew accommodation will also be on the lower deck with exception of the captain who gets a private cabin on the upper deck. Her main features consist of a beach club, dive station, sauna and a fitness area which includes a fully equipped gym and a counter current pool.

She has been already tank tested and the project is fully developed to start he construction. The chosen materials are steel for the hull with aluminium superstructure, for a strong, long range and all condition expedition yacht.

Feadship Unveils Their Anticipated Future Concept

Feadship has unveiled its latest Future Concept, an annual exploration by the brand’s designers and naval architects into the requirements of the next generation of Superyacht owners. Relativity has been created with a particular client in mind as Feadship speculates on how Albert Einstein might have used a Feadship to spread the message of knowledge and innovation around the globe.

By generating a design for a specific individual, Relativity is a clear departure from previous successful Feadship Future Concepts such as X-Stream, F-Stream, Aeon, Breathe and Qi. These were built with the generic requirements of a wide range of conceivable owners in the coming decades based on detailed market research. By taking the possible desires of a famous person from the past as the template, Relativity allowed the Feadship designers to hone in on specific areas in the same way that they do for individual owners in their everyday life.

'Client privacy is of paramount importance to us at Feadship and we can rarely if ever divulge the input that was given to us for any of our custom motoryachts,' says Francis Vermeer, head of marketing at Feadship. 'Each and every Feadship is a reflection of the bespoke wishes of the people who commission her, and these briefings remain confidential. With the Relativity project we were able to share in a fun and informative way the processes involved in designing a Feadship before the contract is even signed.'

While we all know that Albert Einstein was a brilliant scientist, fewer people are aware of his great passion for sailing and owned various yachts in his lifetime. 'What this eminent man would have made of a 21st-century Feadship we cannot say,' adds Vermeer. 'But as we worked on the Relativity project we're pretty sure that he would have found it a great experience. Mr Einstein was famous for having a sense of humour and it was great fun to speculate how he might have criss-crossed the oceans with his fellow scientists on a Feadship and disseminate knowledge to an expectant world.'

One of the key parameters has been fulfilled by the layout of Relativity. Her futuristic, organic drop shaped superstructure contains different decks that meet the distinctive uses for which she is designed. There is an open-plan society deck, which contains a special auditorium for giving presentations in a dynamic and creative environment.

One deck above is the intelligence deck, that includes six scientists rooms so that they can accompany the owners on their exploration voyages. Relaxation for the residents of the intelligence deck is offered in the form of a dining room and lounge. This ensures that the family deck above can remain a strictly private place for the owner and his family members and friends to enjoy a holiday in calm and luxurious surroundings. There are three VIP suites, a separate dining and lounge area and a smoking lounge in the bow for the owner to enjoy his pipe and contemplate the universe in peace. This will ensure that the large outdoor areas can offer a smoke free al fresco experience. It will also be the ideal place to watch guests who dare take the 4th dimension slide, which runs half the length of the yacht and allows guests to splash into the ocean at something close to the speed of light.

The Nordhavn 120 Moves Closer To Completion

Nordhavn's N120 is progressing smoothly towards her completion date at the end of the year. The newest video released last month by Nordhavn shows her build progression, with a full interior tour showing her dark wood paneling and interior layout. You can see how her interior will be finished in the below image, the combination of light and dark will create a very homely feel for those long passages. Hull No.1, was sold in early 2010 to an owner who must have in mind to use this yacht to its full exploring potential on the worlds oceans.

RMK and Vripack's Explorer 110 Design

RMK Marine in collaboration with Vripack have presented the Explorer 110 design with two slightly different styling schemes. The difference in style can be seen in the above and below images which has been based on the requirements for a current customer.

Both styling schemes provide accommodation for 8 guests in a twin guest cabin, a double cabin and a VIP cabin all en suite as well as the master owners cabin. There is also accommodation for 6 crew. There are 2 tenders shown on board that can be launched by a central single crane, additional space for more toys can be incorporated into the design if required.

Vripack have worked with RMK Marine on 3 previously successful expedition projects, Caressa K which measures 38m (124ft) in length , the 37m (121ft) Jasmin and the 37m (121ft) Private Lives which is currently for sale for $8,875,000. Vripack have the reputation for designing expedition yachts with a great deal of volume for the size of the yacht and this can definitely be seen with this 33m design.

A spokesman for RMK Marine said 'The benefits of the Vripack explorer yachts are that they are designed to go anywhere, have outstanding sea keeping, range and the high volume to provide maximum accommodation and storage for tenders and toys all clothed in the ruggedly attractive lines of the expedition yacht genre'.

Palumbo Launch 30m Tug 'Vervece'

Last week in Naples, the Palumbo Shipyard launched 'Vervece' a beautifully designed 30m (98ft) tug boat. The owner contacted the Palumbo yard to perform the conversion of this 1960s tug into a luxury exploring yacht. The conversion consisted of replacing the old hull plates and installing a totally new superstructure that blends perfectly with the tugs hull lines, this makes Vervece an 80% new build. Also all of her systems were overhauled and renewed.

She has a beam of 7.70m (25ft) and 2 Cummins engines with a power of 746Kw at 1,800rpm that bring her to a cruising speed of 12kts with a range of 3,000nm. She is now charter classed and MCA compliant.

MY Octopus Arrives in Hamburg

It is mid summer and Superyachts are all on the move bringing their owners and guest on luxurious trips all over the world. It seems that the expedition yachts are being noticed and photographed by amazed onlookers on both sides of the Atlantic this week. Earlier this week the 115m Luna entered the 1000 island region on the Canadian/US boarder and in the same week the 126m Octopus passed Blankenese on her approach to Hamburg Germany. The below video was captured by an onlooker and shows Octopus at her best.

Octopus was built by lurssen in 2003 and is currently sits at number 14 in the worlds top 100 Superyachts. She measures a total length of 126m (414ft) and can reach a top speed of 20kts. Some features include 2 submarines, a basketball court, swimming pool, cinema and not one but two helipads. Her exterior was designed by Espen Oenio and designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett was responsible for her interior design. Her owner, Microsoft co founder Paul Allen uses this expedition yacht to her potential and travels the world, as she was spotted in the Maldives at the start of the year. She has also taken on the notorious North West Passage as well as many other great expeditions since her launch in 2003.

MY Luna Explores The 1000 Island Region

The 115m (377ft) expedition style Superyacht Luna which is currently ranked at number 18 in the top 100 privately owned Superyachts in the world passed under the Thousand Island bridge and made her way up the St Lawrence River to explore the islands the other day.

Luna is one of the Superyachts in billionaire Roman Abramovich's extensive fleet of yachts which also includes the current largest Superyacht in the world MY Eclipse. Luna was launched in 2009 by Lloyd Werft and Stahlbau Shipyard in Germany, and then later delivered to her owner in 2010 after she completed sea trials. Her interior was designed by the renowned designer Donald Starkey and her innovative bold exterior was designed by Newcruise Design. She features two helipads and a spacious aft deck which includes a covered swimming pool and plenty of space to catch some rays. She can accommodate up to 12 guests and is also available for charter so it begs the question, who might be on board now exploring the beautiful islands?

Le Grand Bleu, The King Of Expedition Yachts

Last week on Wednesday the 16th of May one of the largest yachts in the world Le Grand Bleu arrived into Valencia's Americas Cup Port, La Marina Real Juan Carlos. She measures 112.80m (370ft) in length, placing her at the number 20 spot in the list of the worlds top 100 privately owned Superyachts. She was meant to dock in the main cargo port but surprisingly it was too shallow for her 4.60m (15ft) draft, so she made her way into La Marina Real Juan Carlos.

She is your true go anywhere expedition yacht that means business, with her 75ft Frers designed sailboat and 60-70ft power boat on the aft deck. She was launched in 2000 from the German shipyard Bremer Vulkan who coordinated with Kusch Yachts who were responsible for the naval architecture and bold exterior lines. Her interior design was left to the design skills of Bannenberg & Rowell Design, who gave her a modern interior style and feel.

She can accommodate up to 20 guests and a crew of 35 who keep her pristine for when the guests arrive at a moments notice. She has a top speed of 17kts and if the sailing yacht and motor boat on the aft deck wasn't enough she also has helicopter pad capability. Le Grand Bleu used to be owned by Paul Allen before she was purchased by Roman Abramovich and then reportedly given as a gift to Eugene Shvidler.

Delta Marine Launch 50m 'Arianna'

Arianna is Delta Marine's newest custom Megayacht launched and has been engineered and designed in house by the Delta Marine Group. She is 50m (164ft) in length and is the largest all composite 50m full displacement Megayacht in the world, with more than 780 gross tons. The Delta Marine Group worked close with the owner's to bring to life their vision of having a yacht that is ready to travel and explore with a Polynesian inspired interior, a home away from home.

She has a large living area of over 7,500 square feet and a beam of nearly 34ft. The large living volume was great for the interior designers to create the vision of the owner with the use of rare tropical hardwoods including Mascassar ebony, Wenge and Koa with Balinese inspired touches.

Some of her main features includes the large owner's suite located on the upper deck which has a lounge, a private outdoor deck, dining area and a customized room for children and family members. Traditionally on Megayachts of this size, forward on the main deck is usually dedicated to the owner's suite but with Arianna this space is occupied with a fully equipped gym, a sauna and a private office. These areas are filled with light from the stained glass skylights and large hull side windows.

There is plenty of outdoor space where guest can enjoy al fresco dining at the large seating area aft on the main deck, or relax in the sun and jacuzzi on the upper deck. Another feature to take note of is her float in tender garage aft and a smaller tender storage area on the sun deck.

She will have a cruising speed of 14.5kts and a maximum speed of 16kts with a transoceanic range of 5,000nm.

Steve Dashew's New FPB 97, Ready For Exploration

Steve Dashew's has added his newest design to his successful FPB line of ocean cruising yachts with the Wicked FPB 97. The new FPB 97 was designed to meet the needs of people who want to have the most economical and largest FPB that can be operated by a couple. She has the distinct bold go anywhere exterior styling as her sisters in the FPB series. The FPB ocean yachts are designed for maximum comfort and safety with specialized heavy weather capabilities such as recovering from a capsize.

The FPB 97 has received some new and innovative design features which includes the layout of the main saloon which is called the 'Grand Room' that combines living, working, navigating and entertainment spaces.
