Baltic Yachts Sign New 40m

Baltic Yachts announced the signing of a custom 40m (130ft) high performance cruising superyacht. To date Baltic Yachts have delivered nine fully custom yachts above 100ft built in carbon composite with the focus on comfortable cruising combined with high performance and low weight and this new 40m follows those guidelines exactly.

Nauta Design is responsible for overall exterior design, deck and interior design with the hull lines from the board of Reichel Pugh Yacht Design. She will have a full carbon sandwich construction and be equipped with a retractable propulsion system and lifting keel. Nigel Ingram from MCM will be the owner's representative on the project with the build start in September this year and delivery in summer 2016.

She will have a plumb bow and a wide stern combined with a flush deck to fulfil the owner's wishes as a passionate regatta sailor. Her internal layout will include an owner forward suite, a saloon, galley and an additional five cabins, two for guests and three for crew.

This year Baltic Yachts is delivering two new builds, a 108ft and 116ft, along with the launch of Nariida, the 105ft Wally that was in for a refit this past winter. In production Baltic Yachts have a 115ft and a 175ft project alongside this new 130ft and the Lifecycle Service department projects. It all sounds like busy times ahead for the Finnish yard.

The Power Is Unleashed

The power of the newly launched WallyCento "Magic Carpet3" was unleashed as she stole the show with a stunning performance at the Gaastra Palmavela Regatta which ran from the 1st - 5th May. She beat her closest competitor by 5 to 20 minutes in every race during the regatta and this is only just two weeks after she was launched. If she can do this now what will she be able to do later in the season? We think a lot of winning.

"I'm highly satisfied with the outcome of this groundbreaking project, that engaged myself and my team for over two years" says owner and helmsman Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones "Magic Carpet3 is precisely what I wanted and expected her to be, totally fulfilling my goals and briefs. She is the natural evolution of my breed of yachts: very fast, beautiful, comfortable, technologically advanced, and easy to sail".

The WallyCento is the newest generation of the racer-cruiser which is developed by Reichel Pugh Yacht Design and Magic Carpet3 shows the formidable Reichel Pugh race design pedigree as owner Sir Owen-Jones explains:  "As a truly passionate yachtsman and lover of performance and technology, the starting point of the development of Magic Carpet3, that is my third Wally, was the brief to design the fastest cruiser-racer in the World, with no limitations or other requirements." explains Sir Owen-Jones "We selected Reichel Pugh because they have great experience of designing very high performance maxi racers. They successfully interpreted the WallyCento box-rule and produced along with Wally, an explosively fast boat on all points of sail and in all wind conditions".
On deck she can accommodate up to ten guests comfortably for formal dining and down below the saloon/dining area, lounge, navigation and office separates the service area aft from the guest accommodation that includes two double en-suite guest cabins and the owners suite with en-suite and shower room.

Reichel & Pugh's New Design 115ft Classic Racer

Reichel & Pugh are mostly know for their excellent design in some of the worlds top racing yachts and have gained a renowned reputation in this area. Over recent times they have moved into the classic market as well to work as naval architects in projects such as the J Class yacht Ranger, a classic race that was launched in 2004. More recently they were the co-naval architects with Dykstra & Partners in the recently launched yacht Hetairos (Panamax) a classic ketch by Baltic Yachts.

Yet again Reichel & Pugh have entered the classic design market with their sleek new design for a classic racer. They wanted to recreate the classical elegance of a bygone era and combine it with modern underwater shape and appendages. This classic racer can be built for alloy or composite rigging to suit the owner, with a option of a fixed (Draft 4.80m) or lifting (Draft 4.00m - 5.50m) keel. The teak covered deck is simply laid out for ease of sail handling and racing functionality, all the winches are push button hydraulically powered for ease and simplicity.

The interior design of the yacht is comfortable and modern with a main saloon that features extensive seating areas on both port and starboard. There is an enclosed head and separate shower forward of the main saloon and a twin navigation area aft of the main saloon on the port side and a galley on the starboard side aft of the main saloon. The principle design parameters for the yacht were

"Graceful Aesthetic and Stunning Performance"

With Reichel & Pugh's experience in designing racing performance yachts you can be sure that the 115ft classic racer when built will hit the starting line fast and go on to win some of racing's greatest prizes.
