Readers Top 3 Mega Yachts pt II

Al Mirqab

Al Mirqab 437ft was launched in 2008 by Peters Schiffbau. It took the yard 4 year to complete and she is currently ranked No. 10 in the largest privately owned yachts. The yachts exterior was by the renowned Tim Heywood and Kusch Yachts in Germany. The interior was by Andrew Winch Designs. She can accommodate 60 guests and have a crew of 60. She is owned by Qatar's prime minister and foreign minister Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani. Al Mirqab has a beam of 65ft showing that she has plenty of space inside. Some of her features are a heli pad, swimming pool, jacuzzi and a garage with lots of toys to entertain the guests.



Rising Sun

The Rising Sun is 452ft and was launched in 2004 by the Lurssen shipyard in Germany. This is one of the most prolific Mega Yachts in the world and is currently ranked at No. 8 in the worlds largest privately owned yachts. She is owned by the computer technology magnet Larry Ellison of Oracle computer systems. Her interior design was by the designer Laura Seccombe.

Rising Sun's most noticeable feature is the large windows that wrap around the top two decks. This will let the natural light in and give her guests great views. She is very roomy with a beam of 60ft and for a yacht of this size she is surprisingly fast with a max speed of 28kts and a cruising speed of 26kts. She can accommodate up to 16 guest and has a crew of 45. The aft deck is a heli pad but when no helicopter is present it is transformed into a basketball court, one of Larry's favorite sports. His other favorite sport is sailing and in the aft garage many laser dinghy's can be found and are used regularly for racing between the crew and owner.



Leander

Leander the 246ft yacht built by Peene-Werft and launched in 1992 but was refit in 2008 is owned by English national Sir Donald Gosling, owner of the National Car Park company. Leander is probably on of the most exquisite and well known yachts on the worlds oceans.

She can accommodate up to 16 guests in 2 double owners suites forward on the main deck, 3 double cabins and 3 twin cabins on the lower deck. She has a crew of 26 to meet the guests every needs. The yachts interior is designed to create a comfortable feeling of a home away from home, with luxurious rugs and large arm chairs in the main saloon. She has plenty of toys for the guests to use and a door in the starboard side of the hull opens for access to the water. The top deck can accommodate a helicopter if needed and the deck below has a jacuzzi for the owner and guest to relax an enjoy their surroundings.
