Feadship Unveil Royale Design

Earlier this week at the Monaco Yacht Show Feadship unveiled their highly anticipated future concept design "Royale". She is a true modern marvel of beauty and innovation, a megayacht ready for the 21st century. Feadships unveiling of their annual future concept design is some what of a tradition at the Monaco Yacht Show and are usually designed for the future generation of megayacht owners in mind. We are all pretty sure at Megayacht Global that the Royale concept will be snapped up pretty fast by a new owner.

The designers have given full rein to their imagination on the potential requirements of two specific hypothetical owners, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of Holland.

"Feadship Royale is not an official gift for their majesties, although we do hope they have fun exploring our thinking on their behalf," comments Farouk Nefzi, marketing & brand director at Feadship. "Feadship has built a number of stately superyachts for sovereigns from around the world. We also designed Piet Hein, a gift from the Dutch people to King Willem-Alexander’s grandmother Princess Juliana on the occasion of her marriage in 1937. It is fair to say that we are rather proud of this royal heritage."

"While recent builds such as Venus have already established our leading position in this highly specialised area, Feadship Royale deploys glass to an unprecedented degree," explains Tanno Weeda, one of the design team responsible. "Having a full-height glass superstructure is a challenging concept but we are convinced that it is now technically possible. As more and more glass is used on land-based projects, our sophisticated clients have the right to expect the same on their superyacht. Ovens of the size required to bend giant glass panels are now available, and Feadship has the design and construction expertise to ensure total safety at sea."

A major section of the magnificent interior apart from the large atrium and staircase is the owner's private apartment forward on the main deck featuring a lounge and four staterooms. The owners room in their private apartment is massive surrounded all by glass and spans over three stories.

The Majestic SY Rebecca Heads For Refit

The iconic German Frers designed 42m (138ft) ketch Rebecca, launched by Pendennis in 1999 has returned to the yard in Falmouth for a winter refit. Even though she has been back to the yard twice since her launch, this time will be the most significant refit since her launch in 1999. After her arrival she had her masts de-stepped in advance of her haul out earlier this month. She will spend the next 8 months inside Pendennis' new 90m (295ft) construction hall where she will be written into the books as the first superyacht to enter the new facility.

Rebecca will be in the yard until April 2014 for her 15 year ABS survey as well as substantial engineering and technical works including an upgrade to the hydraulics, electric, alarms and monitoring systems, the installation of new generators, a full overhaul of her original main engine and the addition of a sewage treatment plant on-board.

Some interior layout modifications will include an expansion to her library to add more books along with a general upgrade and overhaul of her interiors. Her exterior will be substantially improved with the addition of a new teak deck.

The Owner’s representative, Jon Barrett, commented "Great to be back at Pendennis amongst so many familiar faces. 14 Years may have passed since we built Rebecca but the commitment to her by the Pendennis team is being felt by all involved. We are looking forward to a very successful winter refit!"

We look forward to seeing a refreshed Rebecca in April just in time for the Mediterranean summer season.

Perini Navi Launch Flagship "Grace E"

Perini Navi Group have just launched their new 73m (239ft) Picchiotti flagship named "Grace E". She is the third megayacht sold by the Perini Navi Group at their Picchiotti yard in La Spezia, Italy. The other two beautifully designed Italian megayachts that have been launched by the La Spezia yard are the 50m (164ft) "Exuma" and the 55m (180ft) "Galileo G" in the Vitruvius series.

Grace E has the same hull and superstructure design elements that make the rest of the Picchiotti Vitruvius series stand out wherever they visit. This allows her to reach a cruising speed of 16.5kts. Grace E is also equipped with a variety of tenders for the exploration.

Her exterior spaces are divided over five decks. The upper deck, also called the wellness deck, has an area that is entirely devoted to wellness with a gym, a sauna and hydrotherapy equipment. The contemporary interiors across all five decks have been designed by Remi Tessier.

Benetti's New Fast Displacement is Born

Benetti took central stage at the Cannes Boat Show yesterday when they announced the new addition the F-125 model in their new fast displacement line to round out their Class Range. The new fast displacement line of composite yachts built by Benetti in the Viareggio boatyard already includes the F-140 which was introduced last year. With this new line Benetti intended to tap into the strong yet relitivly unexplored semicustom megayacht market.

Benetti CEO Vincenzo Poerio says, "Many of our clients have requested faster, more versatile, and efficient boats, while maintaining the same level of comfort and customisation found in our existing yachts. The new fast displacement line is designed precisely in response to these requests, and it rounds out our current offering in the Class Range. We haven't just created a new series; we have invested time and resources - combining the Benetti's 140 years of experience in super yachts with the technological know how of Azimut Benetti Group - to create a new way of heading out to sea."

The two Fast Displacement models were developed by Benetti in collaboration with the Azimut Benetti Group Research Centre, which has designed an extremely innovative hull geometry exclusively for the new range. The Fast Displacement yachts are equipped with a revolutionary new "D2P" Displacement to Planing hull. The new D2P hull has been equipped with a wave piercer bulbous at bow, which allows for an increased cruising efficiency (less resistance to forward motion) of up to 30% compared to a conventional megayacht hull.

The F-125 just like her older sister the F-140 has had her sporty exterior designed by Stefano Righini and her interior designed by British design studio Redman Whitely Dixon. Although the interior is full customisable for the owners, Redman Whitely Dixon have provided three different layout options: Sea, Land and Air. Sea will be modern and light filled bringing the outside in. Land will be more classic with the use of darker warm woods and Air will be the most contemporary with creative open spaces. She will be able to accommodate 10 guests in 5 cabins and will be able to reach a maximum speed of 22kts without putting any strain on the engine.

Perini Navi Cup 2013 Overall

Sunshine and a light breeze helped the superyachts around the course on the final and decisive race of the fifth edition of the Perini Navi Cup. The event, organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda for superyachts produced buy the infamous Italian shipyard Perini Navi, saw victory go to the 50m (164ft) Silencio. Second place went to the 38m (124ft) performance cruising sloop P2 while the 53m (174ft) Parsifal IV claimed the final spot on the podium.

Silencio's owner was understandably delighted with the result of his first participation in the Cup: "We've got an amazing crew, an amazing spirit on board, thanks to the captain and the tactician Dawn Riley and all the crew we did a great job, but above all we had a lot of fun. Six months ago we had never raced and we were unlucky at the Bucket but now you are going to start hearing more about Silencio. This is the start of a love story between the Cup and us, I'm very proud of the crew."

The owner of P2 was pleased with his yacht's performance, commenting on his return to the docks: "It was a well-run and enjoyable regatta and I certainly appreciate Perini Navi's innovative spirit in building a fast, competitive boat."

The final results were as follows:
  1. Silencio
  2. P2
  3. Parsifal IV
  4. Zenji
  5. Tamsen
  6. Jasali II
  7. Panthalassa
  8. Xnoi

Palumbo Launch: 40m Columbus Sport Hybrid

During the weekend on Saturday the 31st of August the Palumbo shipyard in Naples launched the highly anticipated 40m (131ft) Columbus Sport Hybrid. She was launched with the use of two cranes; one 700tn telescopic crane and another 550tn boom crane, you can only imagine the skill and accuracy need in controlling the two cranes simultaneously.

Columbus Yachts are well known for their respect for the marine environment and the 40m Columbus Sport Hybrid is no exception with its use of an environmentally friendly hybrid system.

She will comply with the latest IMO MARPOL regulations and will be equipped with a bilge water separator even if its not requested by the class. The most environmentally friendly system is the hybrid system itself. This will allow the yacht to have a slow navigation with the main engines turned off and just two generators running. The generators have a low impact on the environment due to the fact that their engines run at a fixed rpm thus reducing the carbon emissions. The hybrid system consists of two electric engines connected to the gear box. This allows to have electrical navigation for a maximum speed of 7.5kts getting power from the two generators. The hybrid system can be useful for quiet night navigation due to the electrical engines being very silent.

The owner of the yacht teamed up with Italian design studio Hot Labs Design for the yachts interior to match her smooth sexy exterior lines that come together to create a master piece of innovation and style. The yachts interior shows a combination of warm materials with soft colors to avoid any strong contrast.

She will make her debut at the up coming Monaco Yacht Show this month.

McMullen & Wing have released new designs and layout options for the 50m (164ft) steel expedition yacht "Big Star". As you all know she suffered a set back in her build process due to a fire at the yard in New Zealand but she is partially completed with a price tag of US$30m and can be completed is less than two years for an interested owner.

Central agent Peter Brown, of Burgess in London, is excited to be promoting the project, "Big Star represents an outstanding opportunity to commission a prestige custom luxury explorer from one of the world's finest shipyards at a significant discount with a substantially reduced delivery time of less than two years."
