The Worlds Biggest

Eclipse 557ft and built by the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany. Is currently the largest privately owned yacht in the world. This yacht is owned by Russian Billionaire Roman Abramovich who is currently worth around 13.4 billion which makes him the 53rd richest man in
the world according to the Forbes 2011 rich list. Eclipse took the top spot in being the largest privately owned yacht away from another monster of a yacht "Dubai" 531ft built by the Lurrsen shipyard. the difference between the two yacht is 36ft. Dubai is owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum the head of state of Dubai.
Eclipse can accommodate her guests in 11 staterooms, not too many rooms for a yacht of this size. some of the features that she has include 2 swimming pools, 2 heli pads, multiple hot tube situated around the decks, 3 tenders, a submarine that can reach depths of 165ft, a gym, and a disco room for the late night parties that this yacht will definitely see. If that wasn't enough she is rumored to have a missile detection system.
She has a crew of 50 and has a cruising speed of 22kts and a max speed of 25kts. Quite a staggering speed for a yacht of this size. Her stylish and smooth lines makes her look very sleek and compliments her sheer volume. What will be the yacht that knocks Eclipse of the Number 1 spot? how big can these MegaYachts get? can we even call them MegaYachts? maybe GigaYacht is a better fit. Well how big they will get and who will be the next owner of the worlds largest privately owned Yacht is anyone's guess.

Panamax Launches at Baltic

Hetairos Project name "Panamax" is launched by Baltic Yachts in Finland. This magnificent Ketch stands at an overall length of 197ft and with the bowsprit the length increases another 21ft to bring it to 218ft, quite astonishing size for a classic looking ketch.

Panamax during her construction has set many records including being the largest yacht to be built of a carbon - fibre composite. The owner wanted this yacht to be the fastest and largest yacht to be able to navigate the Panama Canal. So for this project the owner brought together Baltic Yachts in Finland with the renowned naval architects Dykstra & Partners to form this team to construct a modern but classic looking yacht.

The Mast and Rigging was left down to the two of the top companies in this industry. The mast was built by Southern Spars and the Rigging went to Future Fibres. The main mast had to be specially made to meet the owners desire to cross the Panama Canal and under the bridge. With the beam of the yacht 10.28m there was plenty of room in side for the interior designers to work with. This task was given to Dick Young and Jonathan Rhoades of "Rhoades Young"

Hopefully Panamax will be seen in the Med this summer so keep track of her on the yacht tracker. If we are lucky we might even see her on the start line for the Maxi Worlds in August.

Pink Gin 152ft - Baltic Yachts

Fresh from the Baltic Yard in Finland, where she had under gone a total refit, Pink Gin 152ft arrived in Valencia Spain on the 7/7/2011 with only one stop off in London on the way down.
She averaged a speed between 13 - 14kts all the way down. This speed is astonishing for a boat of this size, the speed increase was mainly down to the new solid Carbon Rigging from Future Fibres . The captain only had praises to sing about the outstanding performance that the yacht has gained after moving to Future Fibres Carbon rigging for Rod.
Taking all of that weight off the mast makes the yacht feel like a totally different boat. The Carbon rigging can be seen in the picture to the right.
The name Pink Gin comes from the cocktail "Pink Gin" it contains gin and a swirl of angostura bitters. Not a bad cocktail to drink.
Pink Gin was launched in 2006 from the Baltic yard and was designed by the German naval architects Judel/Vrolijk. with great team work between all parties and the owner the this magnificent and beamy yacht was produced.Due to the boats Beam8.45m this allows for a huge saloon and plenty of interior space. Out on deck the boat consists of two cockpits which blend in well with the lines of the boat.
Pink Gin is now on its way to St Tropez for the Mediterranean season of cruising around Italian coast line and other spots in the Med.
In the picture you can really see the beam of the boat and how her smooth lines just blend well all the way down to the stern forming this great looking yacht.

I will leave you with two last picture on of the cockpit looking to the bow and the other one is of
the elegant Carbon Rigging produced by Future Fibres.
